Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis treatment filters the blood with a machine. This filtration allows the surplus fluid to be removed and eliminates the waste that accumulates in the blood.

How the treatment works
To perform dialysis, a connection is required to access the blood. The arteriovenous fistula and the jugular catheter are good examples. The arteriovenous fistula consists of the connection between an artery and a vein in the arm, created during an operation. Once the required maturation period is over, two needles can be inserted into the arm for the dialysis. Installation of a permanent catheter at the neck to enable dialysis can also be considered.
This type of treatment is supervised by a healthcare team including doctors, nurses, licensed practical nurses, orderlies, and administrative agents.
The treatments take place three times a week at the dialysis centre in your region. It lasts for four to five hours.
Hemodialysis clinics
We have several hemodialysis clinics in the Laurentians. The treatment is provided in Saint-Jérôme, Rivière-Rouge and Saint-Eustache.
