Services for young offenders
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), the CISSS des Laurentides, through the Department of Youth Protection, ensures the dispensation of services as part of the assessment and sentencing follow-up mandates assigned to it by the Act, i.e. the assessment of extrajudicial sanctions and pre-sentence reporting and sentencing follow-up in the community and in custody environments.
The CISSS des Laurentides also provides pre-trial detention, custody, custody environment alternative resource and social integration services.
Results of this specific mission include:
- Evaluation of the adolescent’s personal and social situation and of the adolescent’s delinquency;
- Development and dispensation of programs adapted to risk factors;
- Taking into account the victim by encouraging that person to express their expectations and to get involved in a process of reparation;
- Collaboration with various organisations.
Objectives are as follows, while helping the adolescent take responsibility and mobilising the community:
- To protect society from young offenders between the ages of 12 and 18;
- To rehabilitate these adolescents and reintegrate them into society;
- To improve parents’ ability to supervise their adolescent;
- To reduce the risk of reoffending by working on the adolescent’s strengths while supervising the youngster’s situation.
