Accommodation in a public residential long-term care facility (CHSLD)
The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has designated the Régie de l’assurance maladie to administer the program that covers the financial contribution for adults in residential care facilities. The RAMQ determines the contribution to be paid by adults being housed and calculates it based on the category of room occupied by the patient – either a private room, or a room with two or three beds.
The facility registers the patient with the RAMQ, which sends its assessment notice to the individual living there or their representative, and a copy is sent to the care centre. The individual or representative must make the payments to the centre where the patient is housed at the beginning of each month.
How to modify the amount of the contribution
If the individual believes that their financial or family situation justifies a reduction in their contribution, they must complete an application for exemption or re-evaluation and send it to the RAMQ.
The Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec provides a simulation tool to calculate financial contributions. You can find all the information about current costs based on the category of room and much more on their site, linked below.
The person being housed must inform the Service de la contribution et de l’aide financière of the RAMQ as soon as possible when there is a change in the financial or family situation.
