Before the procedure
You may be asked to temporarily stop some of your medications before the procedure (for example, anticoagulants).
Preparation for your intestines
For the procedure, the intestines must be adequately cleaned.
Buy two rectal enamas (FleetMD) at your pharmacy.
It is important to bring:
- An up-to-date list of the medications you are taking.
- Your health insurance card.
- Your hospital card (if you do not have one, we will make one for you).
After the procedure
Unless otherwise mentioned, this examination does not require an escort.

How a hemorrhoid ligation is performed
The doctor will conduct the procedure.
The doctor will begin with a rectal examination and gently insert a tube called an anoscope. Hemorrhoid ligation will be performed through the anoscope by putting in a rubber band for each hemorrhoid.
Length of the procedure
The procedure will last less than 5 minutes.
