Eligibility requirements
Inability to lose weight through traditional methods.
Prepared to adopt a healthy lifestyle before and after the surgery.
Body mass index (BMI = weight [Kg]/height [m2]) higher than normal.
- BMI greater than 40
- BMI 30-35 and diabetic
- BMI greater than 35 with health problems (see list below)
List of related health problems
- Metabolic syndrome, e.g.: diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia.
- Respiratory problem, e.g.: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) requiring CPAP/BPAP, indications of high suspicion of OSA, STOPBANG Score, asthma.
- Cardiac problems, cardiaque, e.g.: atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (ACAD), heart rhythm disorders.
- Other disorders.
Absolute contraindications to obesity surgery
- Acute or unstable mental health problems
- BMI ≤ 35 kg/m2
- Alcohol, drug and tobacco addiction
Contraindications to obesity surgery (in-depth analysis of request)
- Chronic use of narcotics
- Age < 18 years or > 60 years
